If you’ve ever looked at your electricity bill, talked to solar and battery companies, or tried to work out how to make your pumps or cold rooms run more efficiently, you’ll know that energy decisions on farms aren’t always straightforward.
Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) has worked with hundreds of farms over the last decade through energy efficiency programs and on-farm energy audits. This work has built a detailed understanding of how energy is used on farms, where the big loads are, what the main issues are, and where there are practical opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability and costs.
Many of these insights are shared through case studies, tools and articles on the Queensland Ag Energy Hub, where farmers can see real examples of what others are doing and what works in practice.
QFF is working with TAFE Queensland in 2026 to turn that practical experience into a new training program: the “Understanding Energy in Agriculture” micro-credential.
The course will provide short, practical lessons covering topics such as understanding farm energy use, doing a simple energy assessment, improving efficiency, and making sense of technologies like solar and batteries.
But we want to make sure the course hits the mark for farmers, and that means developing it with farmers.
We’re keen to hear from farmers, farm workers and advisers about what information would be most useful, what questions need answering, and how the material should be delivered, whether it’s short videos, practical guides, tools or workshops.
Your input will help make sure the training is practical, relevant and useful for Queensland farms.
